CAFOD is an international development charity and the official aid agency of the Catholic Church in England and Wales. CAFOD has a local presence in 165 countries and territories.
CAFOD believes in a world where the life of every woman, man and child can be improved. By sharing our skills and knowledge, whether it be through, for example, education in agriculture or providing classes in business start-up, our aim is to encourage people to take charge of their own future.
Fund Raising
At St Anne’s we organise events in order to raise money for CAFOD. Examples of what we have done in the past include: Big Walks, producing Recipe Books, Harvest collections etc.
Big Lent Walk – 2023
This Lent we joined with other Catholic communities in Reading and walked to Sonning. We were warmly hosted by the local Anglican church and provided with tea and cake.
The outward journey was rainy but, thankfully, the sun shone for the return leg. The afternoon was perfectly rounded off with some joyous singing by our own music group.
The record breaking sum raised, after gift aid, amounted to £3,239 !
This will undoubtedly make a difference to the lives of many people.
Seeds for Change
It is critical for farmers to have access to the seeds suited to their own environmental conditions. Rather than supporting the requirements of these farmers the World Bank has been pushing an agricultural model which benefits big agribusiness at the expense of small farmers.
On 16th July 2023 we will be asking parishioners to sign a petition asking the World Bank to put an end to all policies that limit small farmers’ choices over which seeds they can access.
